1187 Awards Night

Report from: Flt Lt Fusedale, OC 1187 Sqn

No 1187 (Hemel Hempstead) Squadron held its annual Award’s Evening at the Cadet Centre in Queensway. Guest of Honour was Wing Commander Mimpress, OC Herts & Bucks Wing. The evening commenced with a presentation to parents on the work of the Squadron by OC 1187 Sqn, Flight Lieutenant Jeff Fusedale.

The Squadron’s cadets were then inspected on parade by Wing Commander Mimpress before he made the following presentations:

Level 2 BTEC Intermediate Certificate in Aviation Studies: Cadet Ashley Quinn
Level 2 BTEC First Diploma Public Services with Distinction: Cadet Warrant Officer Katie Cunningham
Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award: Cadet Flight Sergeant Andrew Murphy
Heart-start Instructor (Emergency Life Support Techniques):Cadet Warrant Officer Katie Cunningham, Civilian Instructor Tom Williams, Warrant Officer Bart Simpson
Aircrew Association Trophy for Academic Achievement: Cadet Corporal Andrew Deeley
Frank O’Brien Trophy for the Smartest Cadet: Cadet Daniel Hatton
Donovan Trophy for Endeavour: Cadet Samantha Pavlick
Most Promising Cadet: Cadet Victoria Taylor-Bateman
Gwnn Richards Memorial Trophy for Best Cadet: Awarded for the second consecutive year to Cadet Ashley Quinn who has twice completed the International 4-days 100-mile Nijmegen Marches, the Belgian 4-days Marches, the Air Cadet Leadership Course, a Physical Training Instructor work experience course at RAF Cosford, autumn camp at RAF Wittering & the Belgian Death March & in doing so took 13 minutes off the Wing record time completing 100-km in an amazing 15 hours 2 minutes.

The evening concluded with a short speech from Wing Commander Mimpress, a former 1187 Squadron officer, who emphasised how proud he was of one of the Wing’s premier Squadrons and its achievements this year.
